Deena A. Tajfirouz, M.D.

Deena Tajfirouz, M.D., is a neurologist and neuro-ophthalmologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, specializing in the diagnosis and management of disorders affecting vision and the nervous system.

Dr. Tajfirouz cares for patients with a broad range of neuro-ophthalmologic conditions, including optic neuritis, ischemic optic neuropathy, papilledema and idiopathic intracranial hypertension, double vision, brain tumors, optic atrophy, and visual symptoms associated with neurologic and autoimmune disease. Her clinical and research interests include posterior cortical atrophy, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), multiple sclerosis, giant cell arteritis, and myasthenia gravis.

Her approach to patient care emphasizes careful clinical evaluation and collaboration across specialties to identify the underlying cause of complex visual symptoms. She works closely with colleagues in ophthalmology, neurology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery, rheumatology, and other specialties to provide individualized, multidisciplinary care.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Tajfirouz is actively involved in research and medical education. Her research focuses on improving the recognition, diagnosis and understanding of neuro-ophthalmologic manifestations of neurologic and inflammatory diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and conditions that affect the optic nerve. She also participates in the education and mentorship of residents and fellows at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Tajfirouz is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and contributes to the Academy's educational and scientific activities. She serves as Neuro-Ophthalmology Abstract Chair for the AAN Annual Meeting, helping support the review and presentation of emerging research in the field.
