When to seek medical advice
Consult your doctor if your child:
- Has constipation that is severe or lasts more than two weeks
- Regularly experiences pain with bowel movements
- Often has fecal stains on his or her underwear
- Has alternating episodes of constipation and diarrhea
Also, talk to your doctor if your child's constipation is associated with:
- Abdominal swelling
- Bloody stools
- Cracks in skin around the anus
- Fever
- Weight loss
