What is Helix?
Helix is a personal genomics company with a simple but powerful mission: To empower every person to improve their life through DNA. Helix has created the first marketplace for DNA-powered products where people can explore diverse and uniquely personalized products developed by high-quality partners. Helix handles sample collection, DNA sequencing, and secure data storage so that their partners can integrate DNA insights into products across a range of categories, including ancestry, entertainment, family, fitness, health, and nutrition. The Helix next-generation sequencing lab is powered by Illumina NGS technology.
What is Mayo Clinic's relationship with Helix?
Mayo Clinic establishes commercial relationships in the health care and technology industries to accelerate innovations for patients and consumers around the world. The Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine is collaborating with Helix to develop consumer-facing applications that can provide insights about health-related conditions as well as education about genetics.
Are the tests and results comprehensive?
The genes, variants and conditions included in Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ are scientifically robust and include common genetic changes that are associated with each condition that Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ tests. Each variant was carefully selected by our expert genetics team. Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ does not evaluate the entire human genome. Therefore, testing from Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ does not eliminate the risk that you have variants for which Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ does not test.
How does Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ differ from other genetic testing products?

Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ is a physician-ordered test through a nationwide network of genetic counselors and doctors called PWNHealth. After answering some general health questions, a physician verifies that this product is right for your health situation before the test is ordered.

In addition to genetic test result information, Mayo Clinic GeneGuide™ provides information and education about health risks related to age, sex, lifestyle and other factors. Interactive tools are built into the system to help you track and understand your family’s health history, health ancestry and more. Access to genetic counselor support from PWNHealth is also available throughout the testing experience.
