Biographical summary
Brian M. Dougan, M.D., is a physician in General Internal
Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He chairs Executive Medicine
and co-leads longevity care for Mayo Clinic’s partnership with Three Forks
Ranch in Wyoming. He has been on the Mayo Clinic staff since 200, and is an
assistant professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
Dr. Dougan earned a bachelor’s degree from Luther College, graduated
from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his internal
medicine residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After residency, he
served as an active-duty internal medicine physician at the U.S. Air Force
Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he received the Meritorious
Service Commendation Medal.
He began his Mayo Clinic career at Mayo Clinic Health System
in Decorah, Iowa, where he served as medical director of the Special Care Unit
and Hospitalist Program and chaired the Clinical Practice Committee. In 2014,
he moved to General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where he
continues to care for patients in the Executive Health Program. He also has taught
perioperative care to internal medicine residents in both hospital and clinic
settings and served as the General Internal Medicine well-being chair from 2016
to 2022.
Dr. Dougan is a fellow of the American College of Physicians
and a member of several professional organizations, including the Institute for
Healthcare Improvement, the Society of General Internal Medicine and the
Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement. He has been recognized
multiple times as a top educator in the Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Residency
Program and has received high patient satisfaction ratings. His awards include
the James J. Lipsky Distinguished Service Award in 2018, the General Internal
Medicine Innovator of the Year Award in 2022 and the General Internal Medicine
Catalyst Award in 2024.
