Biographical summary
Maheen Abidi, M.D., is a board-certified infectious disease specialist at Mayo Clinic Arizona, with a clinical focus in transplant infectious diseases and research expertise in cytomegalovirus (CMV) and aging syndromes in older organ transplant recipients.
Dr. Abidi earned her medical degree from Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan, followed by internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois in 2004. She completed fellowships in infectious diseases at the University of Rochester (2006), geriatric medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (2007), and transplant infectious diseases at Mayo Clinic Minnesota (2013). In 2025, Dr. Abidi completed the Program for Leadership Development (PLD) at Harvard Business School. The PLD is Harvard’s executive MBA analogue, emphasizing strategy, negotiations, and leadership.
Dr. Abidi currently serves as a member-at-large on the Disease Transmission Advisory Committee (DTAC) of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) for the 2023–2027 term. She is an active member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), including its Study Groups on Infections in the Elderly (ESGIE) and Infections in Compromised Hosts (ESGICH). Her prior leadership roles include executive committee service with the American Society of Transplant Infectious Diseases Community of Practice (AST-IDCOP) and the Transplant Infectious
Disease-Special Interest Group of the American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT).
