Investigación

Designated as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute, Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center is defining new boundaries in colon cancer research.

Areas of research include:

• Chemotherapy options after surgery. This study is finding the best chemotherapy treatment for people after surgery by checking for any remaining cancer cells, called circulating tumor DNA, in the blood.
• MUC1 vaccine. Researchers are testing a vaccine targeting the MUC1 protein in people with a history of precancerous polyps to see if it can prevent colon cancer.
• Endoscopy with indigo carmine. Researchers are testing the use of a blue dye mixed with standard colonoscopy prep to see if it improves polyp detection in the right colon.
