Hi, I'm Carlos Puig Gilbert, a thoracic surgeon at Mayo Clinic here in Rochester, Minnesota. I treat a different array of conditions, including benign conditions, such as achalasia, reflux; but also malignant conditions, such as lung cancer, esophageal and gastroesophageal cancers. What motivates me as a physician is to reestablish health, meaning alleviating pain, curing cancer, improving quality of life by delivering great outcomes and great patient experience. One of my areas of expertise includes the management of achalasia, and this could include surgical procedures, such as minimal invasive approaches, like a robotic or laparoscopic Heller myotomy with fundoplication, but also includes endoscopic or endoluminal approaches to treat this condition without incisions. Another area of expertise of mine is the complex esophageal reconstructions on patients that have esophageal cancers or gastroesophageal cancers where they do not have their stomach as a way of reconstruction or conduit. At Mayo Clinic, we're gonna treat you like family. Sometimes people come with complex situations, complex cancers, and have been told that they're not curable.
