Michael Mao, M.D. is a nephrologist in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Mayo Clinic hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Mao specializes in treating acute kidney failure and kidney injuries, dialysis, hypertension, and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. His clinical interests include acute kidney injury in cardiac surgery patients, acid-base abnormalities, and electrolyte abnormalities.

He received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where he went on to earn his medical degree. He then completed an internal medicine internship at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by an internal medicine residency in the Mayo Clinic Department of Internal Medicine and a nephrology fellowship at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.
