Proper Use

Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.

This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet and patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.

Take this medicine with food. You may mix it with semi-solid food or other liquids (eg, fat free yogurt, milk, formula, or cottage cheese, whole grain cereal, fat free low carbohydrate pudding, smoothies, applesauce, or baby food) using a silicone or polyurethane feeding tube. Take this mixture within 24 hours.

Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup made only of stainless steel, glass, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, or silicone. Do not use this medicine with polystyrene or PVC plastic. Do not add this medicine to the feeding bag.

To take this medicine using a feeding tube:

  • Using a slip tip syringe, inject the mixed solution into the feeding tube port.
  • Flush the feeding tube port with about 5 to 30 milliliters (mL) of water to get all of the medicine.
  • Throw away any unused mixed solution. Do not save for later use.

Carefully follow your doctor’s instructions about any special diet.

Dosing

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

  • For oral dosage form (solution):
    • For long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorder (LC-FAOD):
      • Adults and children—Dose is based on your daily caloric intake and must be determined by your doctor. The dose is usually given in at least 4 divided doses. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Take the missed doses 3 to 4 hours apart. If it is not possible to take all of the scheduled doses for the day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Storage

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Ask your healthcare professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

Store the opened bottles for up to 9 months after first opening it. Do not freeze.

You may store the unused mixture for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Throw away unused mixture if not used within 24 hours. Do not store for later use.
