Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Agitation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bladder pain
  4. bleeding of the gums
  5. bloody or cloudy urine
  6. blurred vision
  7. bone pain
  8. burning, itching, and pain in the hairy areas, pus at the root of hair
  9. burning, tingling, numbness or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  10. coma
  11. confusion
  12. cough
  13. decreased urine output
  14. depression
  15. difficult or labored breathing with exertion
  16. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  17. dizziness
  18. drowsiness
  19. dry mouth
  20. fainting
  21. fast heartbeat
  22. fever or chills
  23. flushed, dry skin
  24. fruit-like breath odor
  25. hostility
  26. increased hunger
  27. increased thirst
  28. increased urination
  29. irregular heartbeat
  30. irritability
  31. lethargy
  32. lightheadedness
  33. loss of appetite
  34. lower back or side pain
  35. mood or mental changes
  36. muscle pain, spasms, or twitching
  37. pale skin
  38. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  39. rapid, shallow breathing
  40. rapid weight gain
  41. seizures
  42. severe diarrhea
  43. severe nausea and vomiting
  44. sneezing
  45. sore throat
  46. stomach pain or tenderness
  47. stuffy or runny nose
  48. stupor
  49. sweating
  50. swelling
  51. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  52. tightness in the chest
  53. trembling
  54. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  55. unexplained weight loss
  56. unusual bleeding or bruising
  57. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Chest pain
  2. pain in the groin or legs, especially the calves
  3. severe, sudden headache
  4. slurred speech
  5. sudden loss of coordination
  6. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  7. vision changes

Rare

  1. Difficulty swallowing
  2. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Change in taste
  2. constipation
  3. cracked lips
  4. hair loss
  5. loss of taste
  6. rash
  7. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  8. trouble sleeping
