Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Absence of or decrease in body movement
  2. difficulty with swallowing
  3. drooling
  4. inability to sit still
  5. incremental or ratchet-like movement of the muscle
  6. loss of balance control
  7. mask-like face
  8. muscle discomfort
  9. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness
  10. need to keep moving
  11. restlessness
  12. rigid or stiff muscles
  13. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  14. shuffling walk
  15. slow movements
  16. slow reflexes
  17. slurred speech
  18. stiffness of the arms and legs
  19. tic-like (jerky) movements of the head, face, mouth, and neck
  20. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  21. twisting movements of the body
  22. uncontrolled movements, especially of the face, neck, and back

Less common

  1. Arm, back, or jaw pain
  2. blurred vision
  3. burning while urinating
  4. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  5. chest pain or discomfort
  6. chills
  7. cold sweats
  8. confusion
  9. difficult or painful urination
  10. difficulty opening the mouth
  11. difficulty with breathing
  12. dizziness
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position
  14. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  15. fixed position of the eye
  16. headache
  17. high fever
  18. inability to move the eyes
  19. inability to speak
  20. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  21. increased sweating
  22. lockjaw
  23. loss of bladder control
  24. muscle spasm, especially of the neck and back
  25. nervousness
  26. pale skin
  27. pounding in the ears
  28. seizures
  29. severe muscle stiffness
  30. severe or sudden headache
  31. slow or fast heartbeat
  32. slurred speech
  33. sticking out of the tongue
  34. sweating
  35. temporary blindness
  36. tiredness
  37. trouble with breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  38. troubled breathing with exertion
  39. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  40. unusual bleeding or bruising
  41. unusual facial expressions
  42. unusual tiredness or weakness
  43. unusually pale skin
  44. weakness in the arm or leg on one side of the body, sudden and severe

Rare

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bloody urine
  3. breast pain or swelling
  4. cough
  5. dark-colored urine
  6. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  7. fever
  8. increased thirst
  9. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  10. loss of appetite
  11. lower back or side pain
  12. muscle cramp, pain, or stiffness
  13. nausea
  14. sore throat
  15. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  16. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  17. swollen glands
  18. vomiting
  19. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Decreased urine output
  2. hives or welts, itching, skin rash
  3. loss of consciousness
  4. redness of the skin
  5. swelling of the throat or tongue
  6. tightness in the chest

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Anxiety
  2. belching
  3. drowsiness
  4. dry mouth
  5. heartburn
  6. hyperventilation
  7. indigestion
  8. irritability
  9. relaxed and calm feeling
  10. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  11. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  12. trouble sleeping
  13. unusually deep sleep
  14. unusually long duration of sleep

Less common

  1. Abnormal dreams
  2. back pain
  3. blurred vision
  4. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  5. decreased appetite
  6. diarrhea
  7. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  8. indigestion
  9. sensation of spinning
  10. sweating
  11. tenderness in the stomach area
  12. watering of mouth and drooling

Rare

  1. Decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  2. inability to have or keep an erection
  3. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  4. unexpected or excess milk flow from the breasts
