Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. body aches or pain
  3. burning, numbness, tingling, or painful sensations
  4. burning pain on urination
  5. chest pain or tightness
  6. chills
  7. cough
  8. difficult or labored breathing
  9. ear congestion
  10. fever
  11. headache
  12. loss of voice
  13. lower back or side pain
  14. painful or difficult urination
  15. pale skin
  16. red, swelling, or painful skin
  17. runny or stuffy nose
  18. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  19. sneezing
  20. sore throat
  21. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips, tongue, or inside the mouth
  22. swelling of the hands, ankles, feet, or lower legs
  23. swollen glands
  24. tingling of the hands and feet
  25. trouble breathing
  26. ulceration of the skin
  27. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  28. unusual bleeding or bruising
  29. unusual tiredness or weakness
  30. unusual weight gain
  31. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet

Less common

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. blood in the urine or stools
  3. confusion
  4. decreased urination
  5. dizziness
  6. dry mouth
  7. fainting
  8. fast heartbeat
  9. hives, itching, skin rash
  10. hoarseness
  11. increase in heart rate
  12. irritation
  13. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  14. lightheadedness
  15. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  16. rapid breathing
  17. sunken eyes
  18. swelling of the eyelids, face, or lips
  19. thirst
  20. trouble with swallowing
  21. wrinkled skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. bone pain
  3. change in taste
  4. cracked lips
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  7. discoloration of the fingernails or toenails
  8. feeling of warmth
  9. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  10. heartburn
  11. lack or loss of strength
  12. loss of appetite
  13. nausea
  14. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  15. stomach pain
  16. sudden sweating
  17. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  18. vomiting
  19. weight loss

Less common

  1. Darkening of the skin
  2. flaking and falling off of the skin
  3. trouble sleeping
  4. watering of the eyes
