Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bloody, black, or tarry stools
  2. bone pain
  3. chest pain or tightness
  4. constipation
  5. cough
  6. depressed mood
  7. diarrhea
  8. dry skin and hair
  9. feeling cold
  10. fever
  11. hair loss
  12. heartburn
  13. hoarseness or husky voice
  14. indigestion
  15. itching, skin rash
  16. muscle cramps
  17. nausea
  18. pain in the arms or legs
  19. severe stomach pain, cramping, or burning
  20. slowed heartbeat
  21. sneezing
  22. sore throat
  23. trouble breathing
  24. unusual tiredness or weakness
  25. vomiting
  26. vomiting of material that looks like coffee grounds, severe and continuing
  27. watery or bloody diarrhea

Less common

  1. Blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. blurred vision or other changes in vision
  4. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  5. burning, tingling, numbness or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  6. chills
  7. clay-colored stools
  8. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  9. dark urine
  10. darkening of the skin
  11. decreased appetite
  12. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  13. difficulty with breathing, chewing, swallowing, or talking
  14. dizziness
  15. double vision
  16. drooping eyelids
  17. drowsiness
  18. eye discharge or excessive tearing
  19. eye pain or sensitivity to light
  20. fainting
  21. headache, possibly severe
  22. hives or welts
  23. loss of appetite
  24. mental depression
  25. muscle weakness
  26. pain, itching, burning, swelling, bleeding, or a lump under the skin where the needle was placed
  27. painful or difficult urination
  28. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  29. sensation of pins and needles
  30. severe tiredness
  31. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  32. stabbing pain
  33. stomach tenderness
  34. swelling of the face, feet, or lower legs
  35. swollen glands
  36. unusual bleeding or bruising
  37. unusual weight gain
  38. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Anxiety
  2. bloating
  3. blue or pale skin
  4. chest pain, possibly moving to the left arm, neck, or shoulder
  5. confusion
  6. difficulty with moving
  7. fast heartbeat
  8. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  9. increased thirst
  10. lower back or side pain
  11. muscle pain, stiffness, or weakness
  12. pain or burning in the throat
  13. pain, swelling, or redness in the joints
  14. pains in the stomach or side, possibly radiating to the back
  15. skin irritation or rash, including rash that looks like psoriasis
  16. sores, welts, or blisters on the skin
  17. stiff neck or back

Incidence not known

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  3. bleeding gums
  4. general body swelling
  5. inability to move the arms and legs
  6. joint or muscle pain
  7. nosebleeds
  8. red irritated eyes
  9. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  10. throbbing pain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Headache
  2. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  3. trouble sleeping
  4. weight loss

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
