Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Backache
  2. blurred vision
  3. body aches or pain
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. difficulty with breathing
  7. ear congestion
  8. facial hair growth in females
  9. fever
  10. fractures
  11. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  12. headache
  13. increased hair growth, especially on the face
  14. increased thirst or urination
  15. irritability
  16. loss of sexual desire or ability
  17. loss of voice
  18. menstrual irregularities
  19. muscle aches or wasting
  20. sneezing
  21. sore throat
  22. stuffy or runny nose
  23. unusual tiredness or weakness
  24. weight gain

Less common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. diarrhea
  4. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  5. difficulty with moving
  6. frequent urge to urinate
  7. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  8. joint pain
  9. loss of appetite
  10. lower back or side pain
  11. muscle pains or stiffness
  12. nausea
  13. shivering
  14. sweating
  15. swollen joints
  16. trouble sleeping
  17. vomiting

Rare

  1. Difficulty with swallowing
  2. dizziness
  3. fast heartbeat
  4. hives, itching, or rash
  5. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue

Incidence not known

  1. Blindness
  2. blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  3. changes in behavior
  4. decreased vision
  5. depression
  6. dry mouth
  7. eye pain
  8. false or unusual sense of well-being
  9. flushed, dry skin
  10. fruit-like breath odor
  11. increased hunger
  12. indigestion
  13. loss of sexual desire or ability
  14. muscular pain, tenderness, wasting, or weakness
  15. pain in the bones
  16. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  17. pounding in the ears
  18. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  19. red, irritated eyes
  20. severe abdominal pain, cramping, or burning
  21. severe, sudden headache
  22. slow or fast heartbeat
  23. slurred speech
  24. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  25. stomach pain
  26. sudden loss of coordination
  27. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  28. tearing
  29. thoughts of killing oneself
  30. unexplained weight loss
  31. vision changes
  32. vomiting of material that looks like coffee grounds, severe and continuing

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Flushing or redness of the skin
  2. increase appetite
  3. stomach discomfort
  4. unusually warm skin

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. blemishes on the skin
  3. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  4. pimples
  5. stomach upset or pain
  6. watering of the eyes

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
