Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

More common

  1. Backache
  2. blurred vision
  3. body aches or pain
  4. chest pain
  5. chills
  6. cough
  7. difficulty with breathing
  8. dizziness
  9. ear congestion
  10. earache
  11. facial hair growth in females
  12. fever
  13. fractures
  14. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  15. headache
  16. increased thirst or urination
  17. irritability
  18. loss of sexual desire or ability
  19. loss of voice
  20. menstrual irregularities
  21. muscle wasting
  22. nasal congestion
  23. nervousness
  24. pounding in the ears
  25. redness or swelling in the ear
  26. runny nose
  27. slow or fast heartbeat
  28. sneezing
  29. sore throat
  30. tightness in the chest
  31. unusual tiredness or weakness
  32. white patches in the mouth or throat or on the tongue
  33. white patches with diaper rash

Less common

  1. Seizures

  1. Accumulation of pus
  2. bruising
  3. bulging soft spot on the head of an infant
  4. change in the ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  5. cold, clammy skin
  6. confusion
  7. decreased range of motion
  8. decreased urine output
  9. dilated neck veins
  10. extreme tiredness or weakness
  11. eyeballs bulge out of the eye sockets
  12. fast, weak pulse
  13. full or bloated feeling
  14. heartburn
  15. irregular breathing
  16. irregular heartbeat
  17. joint pain
  18. large, flat, blue, or purplish patches in the skin
  19. lightheadedness
  20. limp
  21. loss of appetite
  22. nausea
  23. pressure in the stomach
  24. severe headache
  25. slow healing
  26. small red or purple spots on the skin
  27. sweating
  28. swelling of the abdominal or stomach area
  29. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  30. swollen, red, or tender area of infection
  31. trouble sleeping
  32. vomiting
  33. weight gain

  1. Bloating
  2. confusion
  3. constipation
  4. coughing up blood
  5. dark urine
  6. headache, sudden and severe
  7. increased sweating
  8. indigestion
  9. loss of appetite
  10. pain in the muscles
  11. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  12. redness of the face
  13. skin rash
  14. unusual weight loss
  15. weakness
  16. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known-For infants only

  1. Diarrhea
  2. dry mouth
  3. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  4. mood changes
  5. muscle pain or cramps
  6. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  7. passing gas
  8. problems with speech or speaking
  9. swelling of the abdominal or stomach area

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Blemishes on the skin
  2. diarrhea
  3. pimples

Less common

  1. Changes in appetite

  1. Increased hair growth, especially on the face
  2. muscle weakness

Incidence not known-For adults only

  1. Feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  2. sensation of spinning
  3. thinning of the skin
