Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Abdominal pain or swelling
  2. arm, back, or jaw pain
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. blood in the eyes
  5. blood in the urine
  6. blurred vision
  7. bruising or purple areas on the skin
  8. chest pain or discomfort
  9. chest tightness or heaviness
  10. confusion
  11. coughing up blood
  12. decreased alertness
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position suddenly
  14. headache
  15. joint pain or swelling
  16. nausea
  17. nervousness
  18. nosebleeds
  19. pounding in the ears
  20. shortness of breath
  21. slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat
  22. sweating
  23. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Decrease in frequency of urination
  2. decrease in urine volume
  3. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  4. lightheadedness or fainting
  5. painful urination

Rare

  1. Blue lips and fingernails
  2. changes in skin color
  3. cold hands and feet
  4. cough or hoarseness
  5. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  6. difficult, fast, noisy breathing, sometimes with wheezing
  7. fever or chills
  8. increased blood pressure
  9. increased thirst
  10. loss of appetite
  11. lower back or side pain
  12. pain, redness, or swelling in the arm or leg
  13. pale skin
  14. paralysis of the face
  15. rapid, shallow breathing
  16. severe numbness, especially on one side of the face or body
  17. swelling in the legs and ankles
  18. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  19. troubled breathing
  20. vomiting
  21. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. difficulty in swallowing
  3. hives
  4. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  5. irritation
  6. itching
  7. joint stiffness
  8. pains in the chest, groin, or legs, especially calves of legs
  9. paralysis
  10. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  11. rash
  12. red or dark brown urine
  13. redness of the skin
  14. severe headaches of sudden onset
  15. sudden loss of coordination
  16. sudden onset of shortness of breath for no apparent reason
  17. sudden onset of slurred speech
  18. sudden vision changes
  19. swelling of the eyelids, lips, hands, or feet
  20. wheezing

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Fear or nervousness
  2. pain where the needle is placed
  3. pelvic pain
  4. sleeplessness
  5. trouble sleeping
  6. unable to sleep

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion
  5. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
