Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. chest tightness
  4. blurred vision
  5. chills
  6. clay-colored stools
  7. confusion
  8. constipation
  9. cough
  10. dark urine
  11. decreased appetite
  12. depressed mood
  13. dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  14. dry skin and hair
  15. feeling warm or cold
  16. fever
  17. hair loss
  18. headache
  19. hives or welts, itching, or skin rash
  20. hoarseness
  21. irritation
  22. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  23. muscle cramps and stiffness
  24. nausea
  25. nervousness
  26. pounding in the ears
  27. rapid weight gain
  28. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  29. redness, swelling, or pain of the skin
  30. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  31. slow or fast heartbeat
  32. stomach pain
  33. sweating
  34. swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, hands, or feet
  35. tingling of the hands or feet
  36. trouble breathing or swallowing
  37. ulceration of the skin
  38. unusual tiredness or weakness
  39. unusual weight gain or loss
  40. vomiting
  41. yellow eyes or skin

Less common

  1. Bloody urine
  2. chest pain
  3. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  4. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  5. increased thirst
  6. lower back or side pain
  7. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  8. severe, sudden headache
  9. slurred speech
  10. sneezing
  11. sore throat
  12. stomach cramps
  13. sudden loss of coordination
  14. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  15. swelling of the face, fingers, lower legs
  16. thickening of bronchial secretions
  17. vision changes
  18. watery or bloody diarrhea

Rare

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. chest discomfort
  3. cloudy urine
  4. darkening of the skin
  5. difficulty in speaking
  6. double vision
  7. drowsiness
  8. dry mouth
  9. fruit-like breath odor
  10. inability to move the arms, legs, or facial muscles
  11. inability to speak
  12. increased hunger
  13. increased urination
  14. indigestion
  15. loss of appetite
  16. loss of consciousness
  17. muscle pain
  18. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  19. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  20. red, irritated eyes
  21. sensitivity to heat
  22. slow speech
  23. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  24. swollen glands
  25. trouble sleeping
  26. unexplained weight loss
  27. upper right abdominal or stomach pain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Bone pain
  2. cracked lips
  3. decreased weight
  4. difficulty in moving
  5. voice changes
