Randy Shelerud, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a specialty in spine care. His clinical practice focuses mostly on musculoskeletal rehabilitation surrounding spine conditions, including:

Dr. Shelerud is an active teacher in the PM&R Resident and Fellowship program. He has been a critical participant in providing hands-on education to Residents and Fellows in the Spine Center and has taught courses on inpatient spinal cord injury and musculoskeletal skills. He also has assisted in curricular development for the PM&R Spine Program, Mayo Clinic Primary Care, and Spine Surgery Symposium. Dr. Shelerud received the "Excellence in Teaching Award" two years in a row from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and the "Excellence in Leadership Award" for his heading the Spine Care Center.

Dr. Shelerud is interested in the efficacy of repeat epidural steroid injections and lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injections for radicular pain. He studies musculoskeletal physical exam and the correlation with diagnostic tests. He researches back pain management options like diagnostic and therapeutic injections and is also interested in lumbar spine traction as a rehabilitation therapy.
