Dr. Jeffrey R. Janus is a board certified, fellowship trained, Head & Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Janus trained at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida where he received entrance into the Junior Honors Medical Program, combining the last year of undergraduate training and the first year of medical school. He has been at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota since 2008 as an Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck Surgeon. Dr. Janus's interests include:

  • Salivary tumor (Parotid Gland) Surgery with special focus on postoperative facial nerve function and aesthetics
  • Removal and reconstruction of Head & Neck Cancers with concentration on restoration of pre-morbid form and function
  • Minimally invasive (endoscopic) approaches to the skull base and pituitary gland
  • Oral Cavity Cancer and Reconstruction Clinic — a multidisciplinary group focused on the treatment of oral cancers
  • Endocrine Surgery — removal of thyroid and parathyroid tumors with consideration of voice function
  • Robotic Surgery — the use of the surgical robot to remove tumors of the throat (oropharynx) and voice box (larynx)

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Janus' is active in research and education, providing mentorship to residents and fellows. He authors expert content and publishes in high-impact scientific journals. He is also Chair of the Otolaryngology Research Committee.

  • Microvascular Reconstruction — Free flap surgery, the use of tissue from one place in the body to rebuild a surgical defect at another, restoring preoperative form & function when possible.
  • Parotid Surgery — Removal of benign and malignant parotid tumors, with special consideration postoperative facial nerve function and/or facial reanimation.
  • Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery — Removal of nasal tumors and/or brain tumors through the nose, done in conjunction with neurosurgery, to avoid large incisions on the face and head.
  • Robotic Surgery — The use of a small 3D camera and robotic arms to remove tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract (e.g. Oropharynx and/or throat cancer).
  • Oral Cavity Cancer Surgery — Removal of tumors from the mouth, lips, cheek, jaw, and tongue with special consideration of reconstruction when needed, and restoration of preoperative speech and swallow when possible.
  • Regenerative Medicine Research — The use of stem cells and tissue scaffolding to rebuild or repair natural structures in the head and neck.
