Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. blindness
  3. blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  4. blurred vision
  5. body aches or pain
  6. chest pain or tightness
  7. chills
  8. cloudy urine
  9. confusion
  10. cough
  11. coughing up blood
  12. difficulty with breathing or swallowing
  13. dizziness
  14. ear congestion
  15. fainting
  16. fever
  17. headache
  18. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  19. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  20. irregular heartbeat, recurrent
  21. loss of voice
  22. muscle cramps in the hands, arms, feet, legs, or face
  23. nervousness
  24. nosebleeds
  25. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  26. paralysis
  27. pounding in the ears
  28. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  29. red or black, tarry stools
  30. red or dark brown urine
  31. seizures
  32. severe sunburn
  33. slow or fast heartbeat
  34. sneezing
  35. sore throat
  36. stomach cramps or pain
  37. stuffy or runny nose
  38. tenderness
  39. tremor
  40. trouble breathing
  41. unusual tiredness or weakness, severe
  42. watery or bloody diarrhea

Less common

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. dilated neck veins
  3. extreme tiredness or weakness
  4. infection from breathing foreign substance into the lungs
  5. irregular heartbeat
  6. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  7. lightheadedness
  8. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  9. weight gain

Rare

  1. Bloating
  2. constipation
  3. decreased urine output
  4. indigestion
  5. loss of appetite
  6. nausea
  7. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  8. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. General feeling of discomfort or illness
  2. itching
  3. joint or muscle pain
  4. red, irritated eyes
  5. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  6. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  7. thickening of bronchial secretions

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Belching
  2. blemishes on the skin
  3. change in or loss of taste
  4. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  5. cracks in the skin
  6. decreased weight
  7. depression
  8. discoloration of the fingernails or toenails
  9. dry mouth or skin
  10. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  11. heartburn
  12. lack or loss of strength
  13. loosening of the fingernails
  14. loss of heat from the body
  15. muscle aches or spasms
  16. pimples
  17. rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
  18. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  19. redness or soreness around the fingernails
  20. stomach discomfort or upset
  21. trouble sleeping
