Abigail L. Stockham, M.D.

Abigail L. Stockham, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of radiation oncology at Mayo Clinic with a generalist practice in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She graduated from University of Iowa Medical school where she was honored to be inducted in to AOA, completed her residency at Cleveland Clinic where she served on the ethics committee, followed by a neuro-radiation oncology fellowship with the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program, and joined Mayo Clinic in 2014.  She is currently the chair of the Professionalism Values and Mission Committee in SWWI, vice Regional Medical Information Officer for SWWI, vice chair of the SWWI Personnel Committee, member of the WI Clinical Systems Operations Committee, member of the enterprise Health Education & Content Services Advisory Committee, serves on the SWWI Executive Operations Team, SWWI D&I Committee and Rad Onc MW D&I Committee, chairs the Rad Onc Enterprise EPIC Optimization Committee, and is a member of the Mayo Clinic Values Council. She is a HELP Program Trained Peer Supporter. Nationally, Dr. Stockham serves as a volunteer for the American Board of Radiology, chairs the EPIC radiation oncology steering board, and previously served as a member of the ASTRO Communications Committee.

Dr. Stockham's clinical area of expertise includes general radiation therapy and additional focus on treatment of central nervous system tumors. She was supported by her Rochester Radiation Oncology Department in developing the Regional Practice Intracranial Stereotactic Radiotherapy program. Dr. Stockham is committed to community-engaged research, and her long-term focus is to better understand and connect with our local communities, particularly racial and ethnic minorities, those impacted by poverty, patients isolated in rural areas, and mitigating psychosocial barriers to care. She is committed to continuing to develop trusting relationships in the community, engaging vulnerable and under-represented patient populations and increasing representation on clinical trials, optimizing patients' experience with navigating complex cancer care with a Mayo Clinic three shields approach.

Dr. Stockham is a recipient of the Midwest Clinical Practice Committee's 2019 Innovation Project to fund a pilot program for Rochester Thoracic Surgery/Interventional Pulmonology eVisits with MCHS patients, and determine whether synchronous visits result in improved patient retention, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. She also received funding from the Mayo Clinic Values Council Research Committee for a project assessing Mayo Clinic employees' experiences of discrimination and experiences with our Mayo Clinic values, both in the SWWI workplace and within the local community.
