Charles R. Sims III, M.D., is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty certification in critical care medicine. He specializes in anesthesia for thoracic surgery, orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, plastic surgery, and solid-organ transplant. He is currently an Assistant Professor, Associate Program Director, and Vice Chair of Safety and Quality for the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.

Dr. Sims graduated medical school from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He finished a fellowship in Critical Care through the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.

Dr. Sims clinical interests are in enhanced recovery after surgery pathways for complex procedures including the development of goal-directed therapy algorithms. His focus on safety and quality includes multidisciplinary collaboration, data-driven efficiency and process improvement, and early detection of patient deterioration. Research interests also include simulation in education.
