Reordan De Jesus, M.D., is a board-certified, dual fellowship-trained neuroradiologist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, with specialized expertise in head and neck imaging, brain and spine imaging, and image-guided procedures. He completed fellowship training in diagnostic neuroradiology at Duke University followed by dedicated fellowship training in head and neck radiology under Anthony Mancuso, M.D., at the University of Florida. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Neuroradiology from the American Board of Radiology.
Clinical expertise
Dr. De Jesus specializes in advanced CT and MRI of the brain, head and neck, skull base, and spine. His clinical interests include head and neck cancer imaging, skull base disorders, perineural tumor spread, temporal bone and inner-ear disorders, complex spine imaging, and image-guided procedures.
A particular focus of his practice is head and neck radiology, where detailed knowledge of anatomy and patterns of disease spread can be critical to diagnosis, staging, treatment planning and follow-up. He works closely with otolaryngologists, head and neck surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and other specialists to define the location and extent of disease and provide imaging information that can directly influence patient care. His academic work and teaching have similarly focused on head and neck anatomy, malignancies and patterns of disease spread.
Image-guided procedures are another major focus of Dr. De Jesus' practice. He particularly enjoys challenging cases in which the clinical team needs a diagnostic answer but the safest or most effective way to obtain it may not be immediately apparent. He approaches these cases by using advanced imaging, detailed anatomic knowledge and procedural problem-solving to determine whether a safe image-guided approach is possible and, when appropriate, obtain the information needed to guide the patient's care.
He also has a strong clinical interest in spine imaging and in optimizing CT and MRI techniques so that imaging is not only diagnostically accurate, but tailored to the clinical question and useful in making treatment decisions.
Approach to patient care
Dr. De Jesus approaches neuroradiology as a collaborative clinical specialty. He places particular emphasis on understanding the question behind an examination, identifying the findings that matter most, and communicating them clearly to the physicians caring for the patient. For complex head and neck, neurologic and spine conditions, this often means working directly with multidisciplinary teams to integrate imaging findings with the patient's broader clinical picture.
He is also interested in improving how medical imaging is performed, including CT and MRI protocol optimization, image quality, quality and safety, and communication between radiologists and technologists. At the University of Florida, he represented neuroradiology on the MRI Protocols, Quality and Safety Committee.
Leadership and education
Before joining Mayo Clinic, Dr. De Jesus spent more than a decade on the faculty of the University of Florida College of Medicine and served as Chief of Neuroradiology from 2017 through 2024. He developed and taught an annual fellowship course on ENT anatomy and patterns of disease spread in the head and neck and has taught neuroradiology to residents and fellows. In 2023, he received the University of Florida's Clinical Excellence in Radiology Award.
