    Most scans are performed using a small device placed gently on the skin, but in certain cases, a specialised device may be placed inside the body to capture even more precise images.

    • During the scan, you will be asked to lie comfortably on a bench as a clear gel is applied to the skin to help transmit the sound waves and improve image quality.

      Your private consultant will move the probe gently over the area being examined while viewing the images in real time. The procedure is generally painless, although you may feel mild pressure in some areas.

    • Our private ultrasound scans take between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the examination and the area being assessed. Your appointment may take slightly longer if multiple areas need to be examined.

    • A diagnostic ultrasound is extremely safe. It relies on low-power sound waves, and there are no known risks. This makes a private ultrasound scan suitable for patients of all ages, including children and pregnant women.

    • After your ultrasound scan, you can usually return to your normal activities immediately. Once the results are available, your consultant will discuss the findings with you and outline any next steps. This may include further tests, treatment options, or reassurance if no abnormalities are found.

    • In many cases, results are reviewed promptly by a specialist. Some findings may be discussed with you on the same day, while others require a detailed report that is shared with your consultant.

    An abdominal ultrasound can help screen for or diagnose issues with internal organs, veins and other structures. By sending high-frequency soundwaves through your body, abdominal ultrasounds enable doctors to "see" what is going on in your abdomen, including changes to the liver, kidneys and digestive system.
