Erica D. Wittwer, M.D., Ph.D.

Erica Wittwer, M.D., Ph.D., is a board certified cardiac anesthesiologist and critical care intensivist. She splits her clinical time between the cardiac surgical operating rooms and the cardiac surgical ICU. In these clinical roles, she cares for patients undergoing all types of cardiac and vascular surgical procedures including heart and lung transplants. Dr. Wittwer serves as the medical director for the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Units at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She also has a special interest in clinical research with a focus on perioperative and postoperative pharmacology and physiology for which she has received both internal and external grant funding. Outside Mayo Clinic, she actively participates in state, national, and international anesthesiology and critical care societies.
