Meng Welliver, M.D., Ph.D.

Meng Xu Welliver, M.D., Ph.D., is a radiation oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, specializing in sarcoma and thoracic cancers. She serves as Chief of the Sarcoma Section in Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Welliver has extensive training in both cancer biology and clinical medicine. She earned her M.D. and Ph.D. from Penn State College of Medicine and completed her radiation oncology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was also a Holman Research Scholar. Her scientific training also included research at the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Welliver believes that cancer treatment should be individualized to each patient. She works closely with patients and multidisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans that incorporate the best available evidence, advanced radiation techniques when appropriate, and each patient's needs and goals. Shared decision-making is central to her practice.

Her research focuses on translating scientific discoveries into patient care, including biomarker-guided treatment, personalized cancer therapy, advanced radiation technologies, and clinical trial development. She is also actively involved in national cooperative clinical trial groups and professional organizations, including Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, NRG Oncology, and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Radiology.
