Robert C. Huebert, M.D.

Robert C. Huebert, M.D., is a transplant hepatologist, physician-scientist, and Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, providing care for patients with cirrhosis and other complex liver conditions. Dr. Huebert's clinical practice focuses on evaluating and managing chronic liver disease, portal hypertension,and hepatic malignancies with a focus on liver transplantation. In addition to caring for patients, he plays an active role in advanced treatment approaches through his role as Director of Enterprise Transplant Research and Innovation. He also leads the Genesis Strategic Imperative for Mayo Clinic aimed at improving outcomes for patients with end-organ failure.

Dr. Huebert's NIH-funded laboratory studies the epigenetic and regenerative mechanisms underlying cholangiopathies and biliary fibrosis, with a focus on translational therapeutics for primary sclerosing cholangitis and related liver diseases. Dr. Huebert has pioneered work in biliary epigenetics, long non-coding RNAs, and induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cholangiocytes. His laboratory is well-funded by federal and Mayo Clinic grants. Nationally, he has served on the AASLD Research Awards Committee, chaired scientific abstract review committees, and has served on multiple NIH Study Sections. His work integrates mechanistic science, regenerative medicine, transplantation, and mentorship to advance the future of hepatology.
