Biographical summary
Patricia Pringle Bloom, M.D., is a transplant hepatologist in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Bloom provides comprehensive care for adults with the full spectrum of liver disease, from abnormal liver tests and chronic liver conditions to cirrhosis and liver transplantation. She has particular expertise in caring for patients with advanced liver disease and complications such as hepatic encephalopathy and ascites. She is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology.
Dr. Bloom is also a clinical and translational researcher whose work seeks to improve how complications of cirrhosis are detected, prevented, and treated. Her research focuses particularly on hepatic encephalopathy and the gut-liver-brain connection, including the roles of the intestinal microbiome and intestinal permeability. She also studies innovative diagnostic approaches, such as speech analysis and digital health tools, and evaluates new therapies through patient-centered clinical trials. Her goal is to translate scientific discoveries into practical strategies that improve patients’ function, quality of life, and long-term outcomes.
