How you prepare your food is an important part of eating healthy, too.

Low-fat cooking methods include baking, broiling, microwaving, roasting, steaming, poaching and grilling. You can also lightly stir-fry or saute in cooking spray, a small amount of vegetable oil or reduced sodium broth. Avoid using butter, lard or other fats that are solid at room temperature. Using a nonstick pan can help you cut down on the amount of added fat needed during cooking.

Try limiting and replacing salt with a variety of herbs and spices. Chilling soups and stews for several hours will make it easy for you to remove any congealed fat.
