Research

Pediatric urology is one of many subspecialties in Mayo Clinic's Department of Urology. Specialists provide clinical care as well as engage in active research projects.

Researchers are investigating ways to improve treatment of bladder exstrophy. Examples of studies include:

  • Using animal and 3D models to simulate new surgical procedures for various fetal conditions
  • Using robotic surgery in complex reconstructive surgery
  • Tissue engineering in bladder exstrophy
  • A multicenter trial studying the outcomes of treatment for bladder exstrophy

In addition to pursuing projects related to bladder exstrophy, urologists conduct basic cellular research as well as investigate treatments to help people with urologic cancer and other diseases receive the most advanced care available.
