Vinay Chandrasekhara, M.D., is a consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he cares for people with complex pancreatic and biliary disorders in Rochester and the surrounding areas. Dr. Chandrasekhara specializes in advanced endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat challenging pancreatic and bile duct conditions. He partners closely with patients and care teams to offer minimally invasive options whenever possible, focusing on improving outcomes and quality of life.

Dr. Chandrasekhara is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also serves as Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Research and Professional Highlights

Dr. Chandrasekhara holds leadership and teaching roles in our advanced endoscopy and pancreas groups and has served on multiple guideline and standards committees for national gastrointestinal societies. His academic contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and speaking engagements in advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy. He directs advanced endoscopy training and mentors future gastroenterologists through Mayo Clinic's fellowship programs.

Dr. Chandrasekhara completed his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He then completed residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Johns Hopkins University and advanced endoscopy fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
