Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Cough producing mucus
  2. difficulty with breathing
  3. headache
  4. irritation of the throat
  5. runny nose
  6. sneezing
  7. stuffy nose
  8. tightness in the chest

Less common

  1. Blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, or flaking of the skin
  2. blurred vision
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. chills
  5. colds
  6. diarrhea
  7. dizziness
  8. dry mouth
  9. fever
  10. flushed, dry skin
  11. fruit-like breath odor
  12. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  13. hoarseness
  14. increased hunger
  15. increased thirst
  16. increased urination
  17. itching, scaling, severe redness, soreness, or swelling of the skin
  18. joint pain
  19. loss of appetite
  20. muscle aches and pains
  21. nausea
  22. nervousness
  23. noisy breathing
  24. pain
  25. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  26. pounding in the ears
  27. shivering
  28. skin rash, encrusted, scaly and oozing
  29. slow or fast heartbeat
  30. sore mouth, tongue, or throat
  31. stomach pain
  32. sweating
  33. swelling
  34. trouble with sleeping
  35. unexplained weight loss
  36. unusual tiredness or weakness
  37. vomiting
  38. white patches in the mouth or on the tongue

Incidence not known

  1. Choking or feeling of choking
  2. difficulty swallowing
  3. extra heartbeat
  4. fainting
  5. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  6. hives or welts
  7. mouth irritation
  8. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  9. slow heartbeat

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Arm, back, or jaw pain
  2. confusion
  3. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  4. fainting
  5. fast, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  6. seizures
  7. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  8. sleeplessness
  9. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. belching
  3. bone pain
  4. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  5. difficulty with moving
  6. discharge or excessive tearing
  7. eye redness, irritation, or pain
  8. headache, severe and throbbing
  9. heartburn
  10. indigestion
  11. mouth or tooth pain
  12. muscle cramps, spasm, stiffness, or tightness
  13. redness of the skin
  14. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  15. stomach discomfort or upset
