Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. burning or stinging of the skin
  3. chills
  4. cough producing mucus
  5. coughing
  6. dizziness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  7. ear congestion
  8. headache
  9. loss of voice
  10. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  11. painful blisters on the trunk of the body
  12. painful cold sores or blisters on the lips, nose, eyes, or genitals
  13. sneezing
  14. sore throat
  15. stuffy or runny nose
  16. tightness of the chest
  17. trouble breathing
  18. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Arm, back, or jaw pain
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. blood in the urine
  4. blurred or double vision
  5. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  6. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  7. burning, itching, and pain in the hairy areas, pus at the root of the hair
  8. change in consciousness
  9. chest pain, discomfort, or heaviness
  10. choking
  11. clay-colored stools
  12. cold, clammy skin
  13. confusion
  14. dark-colored urine
  15. diarrhea
  16. dilated neck veins
  17. discharge or excessive tearing
  18. dizziness
  19. drowsiness
  20. earache
  21. eye pain
  22. fast, weak pulse
  23. fever
  24. frequent urge to urinate
  25. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  26. heavy jaw feeling
  27. inability to speak
  28. increased frequency of urination
  29. irregular breathing
  30. itching or rash
  31. joint pain
  32. light-colored stools
  33. lightheadedness
  34. loosening of a tooth
  35. loss of appetite
  36. loss of bladder control
  37. loss of taste
  38. lumps in the tongue
  39. muscle aches, cramps, pains, spasms, or stiffness
  40. nausea or vomiting
  41. nervousness
  42. noisy breathing
  43. pain or burning during urination
  44. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  45. pain, swelling, or numbness in the mouth or jaw
  46. pale skin
  47. pounding in the ears
  48. redness or swelling in the ear
  49. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  50. seizures
  51. sensitivity of the eye to light
  52. severe or sudden headache
  53. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  54. shivering
  55. skin lumps
  56. slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat
  57. slurred speech
  58. spread of cancer to the liver
  59. stiff neck or back
  60. stomach cramps, lumps, pain, or tenderness
  61. sudden loss of consciousness
  62. sweating
  63. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  64. swollen glands
  65. tearing
  66. temporary blindness
  67. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  68. trouble sleeping
  69. unable to speak
  70. unpleasant breath odor
  71. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  72. unusual bleeding or bruising
  73. vomiting of blood
  74. warts on the genital area
  75. watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody
  76. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
  77. weakness on one side of the body, sudden and severe
  78. weight gain or loss
  79. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. cough
  3. muscle pain
  4. red irritated eyes
  5. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  6. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. increased or decreased appetite
  4. swelling or redness in the joints

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. blistering, crusting, irritation, or reddening of the skin
  4. canker sores
  5. discouragement
  6. feeling sad or empty
  7. flushing or redness of the skin
  8. heartburn
  9. indigestion
  10. irritability
  11. loss of interest or pleasure
  12. redistribution or accumulation of body fat
  13. skin rash, encrusted, scaly, and oozing
  14. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth
  15. stomach discomfort or upset
  16. tiredness
  17. trouble in concentrating
  18. unusually warm skin
