Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blisters on the skin
  2. body aches or pain
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. difficulty with breathing
  6. ear congestion
  7. itching in the genital or other skin areas
  8. loss of voice
  9. open sores or scabs on the skin
  10. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  11. redness of the skin (severe)
  12. scaling
  13. shortness of breath or troubled breathing
  14. skin rash
  15. sneezing
  16. sore throat
  17. stuffy or runny nose
  18. tightness of the chest or wheezing
  19. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. ankle, knee, or great toe joint pain
  3. bladder pain
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. blurred vision
  6. chest pain
  7. cold flu-like symptoms
  8. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  9. dizziness
  10. fainting
  11. fast or irregular heartbeat
  12. frequent urge to urinate
  13. hoarseness
  14. joint stiffness or swelling
  15. lower back or side pain
  16. lump in the abdomen or stomach
  17. nervousness
  18. persistent non-healing sore
  19. pink growth on the skin
  20. pounding in the ears
  21. reddish patch or irritated area
  22. severe headache
  23. shiny bump on the skin
  24. slow or fast heartbeat
  25. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  26. white, yellow or waxy scar-like area

Incidence not known

  1. Blue lips and fingernails
  2. convulsions
  3. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  4. dilated neck veins
  5. extreme fatigue
  6. fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat
  7. headache
  8. irregular breathing
  9. nausea or vomiting
  10. pain in the shoulders, arms, jaw, or neck
  11. slurred speech
  12. sudden and severe inability to speak
  13. suicide
  14. sweating
  15. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  16. temporary blindness
  17. weakness in the arm or leg on one side of the body
  18. weight gain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Confusion
  2. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Burning or stinging of the skin (mild)
  2. flaking of the skin
  3. mild headache
  4. pain, soreness, or tenderness of the skin (mild)
  5. rash
  6. redness of the skin (mild)
  7. swelling at place of application

Less common

  1. Back pain
  2. lightening of the treated skin
