Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Agitation
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  4. blurred vision
  5. changes in behavior
  6. chest pain or discomfort
  7. decreased urination
  8. dry mouth
  9. fast, pounding, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  10. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  11. mood or mental changes
  12. rapid breathing
  13. severe stomach pain, cramping, or burning
  14. stiff neck
  15. sunken eyes
  16. thoughts of killing oneself
  17. trouble breathing
  18. unusual tiredness or weakness
  19. vomiting of material that looks like coffee grounds, severe and continuing
  20. wrinkled skin

Incidence not known

  1. Bluish lips or skin
  2. change in the ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  3. chest tightness
  4. cold, clammy skin
  5. confusion
  6. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  7. cough
  8. darkening of the skin
  9. decrease in frequency of urination or urine amount
  10. deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  11. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  12. fast or weak pulse
  13. headache
  14. hives or welts, itching, skin rash
  15. increased sensitivity to pain
  16. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  17. loss of appetite
  18. mental depression
  19. nausea
  20. noisy breathing
  21. overactive reflexes
  22. painful urination
  23. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  24. poor coordination
  25. restlessness
  26. sweating
  27. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  28. trouble sleeping
  29. vomiting
  30. worsening of pain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Cold, clammy skin
  2. drowsiness that is so severe you are not able to answer when spoken to or, if asleep, cannot be awakened
  3. pinpoint (small) pupils in the eyes
  4. seizures
  5. slow heartbeat
  6. very slow or trouble breathing

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. joint pain
  4. muscle pain or stiffness

Less common

  1. Back pain
  2. belching
  3. diarrhea
  4. discouragement
  5. feeling sad or empty
  6. heartburn
  7. indigestion
  8. irritability
  9. loss of interest or pleasure
  10. muscle spasms
  11. pain in the arms or legs
  12. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  13. tingling of the hands or feet
  14. trouble concentrating
  15. unusual weight gain or loss

Less common

  1. Being forgetful
  2. bleeding after defecation
  3. clumsiness
  4. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  5. crying
  6. delusions of persecution, mistrust, suspiciousness, or combativeness
  7. difficulty with swallowing
  8. difficulty with walking
  9. double vision
  10. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  11. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  12. full feeling
  13. increased appetite
  14. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  15. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  16. loss of balance
  17. low body temperature
  18. muscle aches
  19. muscle twitching or jerking
  20. rhythmic movement of muscles
  21. runny nose
  22. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  23. sensation of spinning
  24. shivering
  25. slurred speech
  26. sneezing
  27. trouble with speaking

Incidence not known

  1. Bad, unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. chills
  4. drowsiness
  5. dry mouth
  6. false or unusual sense of well-being
  7. fear or nervousness
  8. feeling of warmth
  9. muscle stiffness or tightness
  10. numbness of the feet, hands, and around the mouth
  11. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  12. relaxed and calm feeling
  13. shaking
  14. uncontrolled eye movements
  15. upper stomach pain
