Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. confusion
  3. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position suddenly
  4. increased sweating
  5. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Itching of skin
  2. numbness and tingling of face, fingers, or toes
  3. pain in arms, legs, or lower back, especially pain in calves and/or heels upon exertion
  4. pale, bluish-colored, or cold hands or feet
  5. weak or absent pulses in legs

Rare

  1. Blue lips and fingernails
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. changes in skin color
  4. changes in vision
  5. chest pain or discomfort
  6. convulsions
  7. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  8. decrease in frequency of urination
  9. decrease in urine volume
  10. delusions
  11. dementia
  12. difficult, fast, noisy breathing, sometimes with wheezing
  13. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  14. difficulty with speaking
  15. feeling of warmth
  16. feeling unusually cold
  17. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  18. loss of bladder control
  19. muscle spasm or jerking of all extremities
  20. no heartbeat
  21. pain, tenderness, or swelling of foot or leg
  22. painful urination
  23. paleness of skin
  24. peeling of skin
  25. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  26. shivering
  27. shortness of breath
  28. slow or irregular heartbeat
  29. small clicking, bubbling, or rattling sounds in the lung when listening with a stethoscope
  30. sudden loss of consciousness
  31. swelling, redness, or burning of skin where the needle is placed
  32. tightness in chest

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Dilated neck veins
  2. extreme fatigue
  3. irregular breathing
  4. no blood pressure or pulse
  5. stopping of heart
  6. swelling of face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  7. unconsciousness
  8. weight gain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Hardening or thickening of skin where the needle is placed
  2. nausea

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. dry mouth
  3. headache
  4. hyperventilation
  5. irritability
  6. nervousness
  7. restlessness
  8. shaking
  9. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  10. trouble sleeping
  11. vomiting

Rare

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. change in taste or bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  4. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  5. discouragement
  6. feeling sad or empty
  7. heartburn
  8. indigestion
  9. lack of appetite
  10. lack or loss of strength
  11. loss of interest or pleasure
  12. shoulder pain
  13. stomach soreness, discomfort, upset, or pain
  14. stuffy nose
  15. tiredness
  16. trouble concentrating
  17. weight loss
