Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Anxiety
  2. blurred vision
  3. chills
  4. cold sweats
  5. confusion
  6. cool, pale skin
  7. depression
  8. dizziness
  9. fast heartbeat
  10. headache
  11. increased hunger
  12. itching of the vagina or outside of the genitals
  13. loss of consciousness
  14. nausea
  15. nervousness
  16. seizures
  17. shakiness
  18. slurred speech
  19. unusual tiredness or weakness
  20. vaginal discharge without odor or with mild odor

Less common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. blurred vision
  4. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  5. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  6. discharge with a strong odor from the penis
  7. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  8. dry mouth
  9. fainting
  10. frequent urge to urinate
  11. increase in heart rate
  12. increased blood pressure
  13. increased thirst
  14. increased urination
  15. loss of appetite
  16. lower back or side pain
  17. pain in the skin around the penis
  18. rapid breathing
  19. redness, itching, or swelling of the penis
  20. sunken eyes
  21. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  22. trouble breathing
  23. vomiting
  24. weight gain

Rare

  1. Flushed, dry skin
  2. fruit-like breath odor
  3. stomach pain
  4. unexplained weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  3. bloating
  4. chest tightness
  5. constipation
  6. cough
  7. dark urine
  8. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  9. decreased urine output
  10. diarrhea
  11. difficulty in moving
  12. difficulty swallowing
  13. fever
  14. hives, itching, skin rash
  15. indigestion
  16. irritability
  17. joint or muscle pain
  18. large, hard skin blisters
  19. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  20. loss of appetite
  21. muscle aching or cramping
  22. muscle pain, stiffness, or twitching
  23. pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling of the area between the anus and genitals
  24. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  25. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  26. rapid weight gain
  27. red, irritated eyes
  28. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  29. severe joint pain
  30. severe sleepiness
  31. sore throat
  32. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  33. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  34. swollen joints
  35. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  36. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Back pain
  2. decreased weight
  3. stuffy or runny nose

Incidence not known

  1. Pain in the arms or legs
