Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. blurred vision
  5. coughing up blood
  6. difficulty in breathing or swallowing
  7. dizziness
  8. dry mouth
  9. fever
  10. flushed, dry skin
  11. fruit-like breath odor
  12. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  13. headache
  14. heartburn
  15. increased hunger
  16. increased thirst
  17. increased urination
  18. indigestion
  19. lump or growth on the skin
  20. nausea
  21. nosebleed
  22. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  23. red or black, tarry stools
  24. red or dark brown urine
  25. redness, swelling, or pain of the skin
  26. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  27. skin blisters
  28. skin rash
  29. stomach pain or cramps
  30. sweating
  31. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  32. tingling of the hands and feet
  33. ulceration of the skin
  34. unable to move
  35. unexplained weight loss
  36. unusual tiredness or weakness
  37. vomiting
  38. vomiting of material that looks like coffee grounds, severe and continuing

Less common

  1. Blurred vision or other change in vision
  2. change in color vision
  3. difficulty seeing at night
  4. eye pain
  5. increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight
  6. redness of the eye
  7. tearing

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  2. chills
  3. cough
  4. diarrhea
  5. itching
  6. joint or muscle pain
  7. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  8. sore throat
  9. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on lips
  10. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  11. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acne, pimples
  2. back pain
  3. bloating
  4. difficulty having a bowel movement
  5. fast heartbeat
  6. hair loss or thinning of the hair
  7. loosening of the fingernails
  8. loss of appetite
  9. muscle ache or stiffness
  10. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  11. redness or soreness around the fingernails
  12. stuffy or runny nose
