Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Bloody nose
  2. body aches or pain
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. cough producing mucus
  7. difficult or labored breathing
  8. ear congestion
  9. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  10. feeling faint, dizzy, or lightheaded
  11. feeling of warmth or heat
  12. fever
  13. flushing or redness of the skin, especially on the face and neck
  14. headache
  15. loss of voice
  16. runny nose
  17. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  18. sneezing
  19. sore throat
  20. stuffy nose
  21. sweating
  22. tightness in the chest
  23. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  24. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Blurred vision
  2. chest pain
  3. confusion
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  5. fainting
  6. shallow breathing

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. bluish lips or skin
  3. confusion
  4. darkening of the skin
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficulty swallowing
  7. hives, itching, skin rash
  8. loss of appetite
  9. mental depression
  10. nausea
  11. not breathing
  12. overactive reflexes
  13. poor coordination
  14. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  15. restlessness
  16. seizures
  17. shivering
  18. sweating
  19. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  20. tightness in the chest
  21. twitching
  22. vomiting

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Change in consciousness
  2. chest pain
  3. choking
  4. cold and clammy skin
  5. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  6. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  7. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  8. difficult, fast, or noisy breathing
  9. extremely shallow or slow breathing
  10. increased sweating
  11. loss of consciousness
  12. no muscle tone or movement
  13. pale skin
  14. severe sleepiness
  15. slow heartbeat
  16. swelling in the legs and ankles

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  2. trouble sleeping

Less common

  1. Bad or unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  3. difficulty having a bowel movement
  4. dry mouth
  5. ear pain
  6. false or unusual sense of well-being
  7. fear or nervousness
  8. floating feeling
  9. hearing loss
  10. lack or loss of strength
  11. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  12. sneezing
  13. stomach pain
  14. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  15. trouble with swallowing
  16. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  17. voice changes
  18. weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. False beliefs that cannot be changed by facts
  2. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  3. sensation of spinning
