Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  1. Blindness
  2. bloating
  3. bloody or black, tarry stools
  4. blue lips and fingernails
  5. blurred vision
  6. bone pain
  7. bowel or bladder dysfunction
  8. bulging soft spot on the head of an infant
  9. change in ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  10. changes in skin color, pain, tenderness, or swelling of the foot or leg
  11. chest pain or discomfort
  12. chills
  13. constipation
  14. cough
  15. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  16. darkened urine
  17. decrease in height
  18. decrease in the amount of urine
  19. decreased urine
  20. decreased vision
  21. difficult, fast, noisy breathing
  22. difficulty swallowing
  23. dilated neck veins
  24. discouragement
  25. dry mouth
  26. extreme tiredness or weakness
  27. eye pain
  28. eyeballs bulge out of the eye sockets
  29. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  30. feeling sad or empty
  31. fever
  32. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  33. headache
  34. hives, skin rash
  35. impaired wound healing
  36. increased sweating
  37. increased thirst
  38. indigestion
  39. irregular breathing
  40. irritability
  41. lack of appetite
  42. large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  43. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  44. loss of appetite
  45. loss of interest or pleasure
  46. lower back or side pain
  47. mood changes
  48. muscle cramp, pain, tenderness, wasting, or weakness
  49. nausea
  50. nervousness
  51. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  52. pain in the back, ribs, arms, or legs
  53. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  54. painful, swollen joints
  55. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  56. pale skin
  57. pounding in the ears
  58. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  59. redness, soreness, or itching skin
  60. right upper abdominal pain and fullness
  61. seizures
  62. severe, sudden headache
  63. slow heartbeat
  64. slurred speech
  65. sores, welts, or blisters
  66. stomach distention
  67. stomach pain or burning
  68. sudden loss of coordination
  69. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  70. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  71. tearing
  72. tightness in the chest
  73. trouble concentrating
  74. trouble sleeping
  75. troubled breathing at rest
  76. unusual tiredness or weakness
  77. vision changes
  78. vomiting
  79. weight gain
  80. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Abnormal fat deposits
  2. darkening or lightening of normal skin color
  3. dry, scaly skin
  4. increased appetite
  5. increased sweating
  6. lightening of treated areas of dark skin
  7. moon face
  8. thinning hair
  9. weight gain
