Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. confusion
  4. difficult breathing
  5. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position suddenly
  6. fainting
  7. fever
  8. irregular heartbeats that continue
  9. sweating
  10. unusual tiredness or weakness


  1. Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  2. extra heartbeats
  3. nervousness
  4. pain in the shoulders, arms, jaw, or neck
  5. pounding in the ears
  6. slow or fast heartbeat

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Bluish color of the fingernails, lips, skin, palms, or nail beds
  2. collapse
  3. gasping to breathe
  4. paleness of the skin
  5. seizures

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  2. headache

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. bloated or full feeling
  4. blood in the urine
  5. bloody or black, tarry stools
  6. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  7. change in vision
  8. chills
  9. continuing ringing or buzzing
  10. cough
  11. decrease in frequency of urination
  12. decrease in urine volume
  13. deep breathing
  14. diarrhea
  15. difficulty in passing urine
  16. drowsiness
  17. dry mouth
  18. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  19. excessive sleeping
  20. eye irritation
  21. fear
  22. feeling happy
  23. feeling of warmth
  24. flushed dry skin
  25. fruit-like breath odor
  26. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  27. hearing loss
  28. heartburn
  29. hiccups
  30. impaired vision
  31. increased hunger
  32. increased thirst
  33. increased urination
  34. indigestion
  35. joint pain
  36. large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  37. loss of appetite
  38. muscle aches and pains
  39. muscle tremors
  40. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  41. painful knees and ankles
  42. painful urination
  43. passing gas
  44. raised red swellings on the skin, the buttocks, legs or ankles
  45. rash
  46. red, sore eyes
  47. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  48. restlessness
  49. runny nose
  50. shivering
  51. sore throat
  52. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  53. sugar in the urine
  54. swelling or protruding veins
  55. trembling
  56. trouble sleeping
  57. unexplained noise in the ears
  58. unexplained weight loss
  59. unusually deep sleep
  60. unusually long duration of sleep
  61. vein discoloration
  62. weakness or heaviness of the legs
