Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  2. indigestion
  3. stomach upset
  4. tenderness in the stomach area

Less common

  1. Chest tightness
  2. cough
  3. difficult or trouble breathing
  4. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  5. noisy breathing
  6. shakiness and unsteady walk
  7. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination

Incidence not known

  1. Chills
  2. cold sweats
  3. confusion
  4. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  5. darkening of the skin
  6. diarrhea
  7. difficulty with swallowing
  8. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  9. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  10. flushing or redness of the skin
  11. hearing loss
  12. hives, itching, skin rash
  13. loss of appetite
  14. painful or difficult urination
  15. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  16. sore throat
  17. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  18. swollen glands
  19. unusual bleeding or bruising
  20. unusual tiredness or weakness
  21. unusually warm skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Agitation or combativeness
  2. anxiety
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. bloody stools
  5. blue lips and fingernails
  6. change in consciousness
  7. cold, clammy skin
  8. confusion as to time, place, or person
  9. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  10. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  11. decreased urination
  12. depression
  13. diarrhea
  14. difficult, fast, or noisy breathing
  15. difficulty with sleeping
  16. disorientation
  17. drowsiness to profound coma
  18. dry mouth
  19. expressed fear of impending death
  20. extremely high fever or body temperature
  21. fainting
  22. fast or deep breathing
  23. fast, weak pulse
  24. headache
  25. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  26. inability to move the eyes
  27. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  28. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  29. loss of consciousness
  30. loss of strength or energy
  31. mood or other mental changes
  32. muscle cramps, pain, or weakness
  33. nausea
  34. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  35. pale, clammy skin
  36. pinpoint pupils
  37. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  38. severe sleepiness
  39. sticking out of the tongue
  40. sunken eyes
  41. sweating
  42. swelling in the legs and ankles
  43. thirst
  44. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  45. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  46. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  47. unusual facial expressions
  48. vomiting
  49. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  50. weakness of the arms and legs
  51. wrinkled skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Drowsiness

Less common

  1. Feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  2. sensation of spinning

Rare

  1. Deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  2. numbness of the feet, hands, and around the mouth
  3. irritability
  4. shaking
  5. trouble sleeping

Incidence not known

  1. Constipation
  2. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  3. relaxed and calm feeling
