A retrospective study of intermediate-term outcomes for patients treated with cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) indicates the treatment was most successful for patients with resectable metastatic appendiceal cancer, metastatic colon cancer and peritoneal mesothelioma.

At Mayo Clinic, minimally invasive laser surgery is available to treat certain brain lesions. MRI-guided laser ablation has been used to treat metastatic brain tumors and radiation necrosis for only about nine months, but preliminary results are promising.
