Biographical summary
Scott A. Lynch, M.D., M.P.H., is a bariatrician and obesity medicine specialist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He provides comprehensive care for patients living with obesity and weight-related health conditions, with expertise in medical weight management, nutrition optimization, weight loss medications, and both surgical and nonsurgical approaches to treatment.
Dr. Lynch takes a multidisciplinary approach to obesity care, recognizing that successful weight management often requires individualized strategies that address medical, nutritional and lifestyle factors. He has particular expertise in caring for patients with complex obesity, including those who experience weight regain after bariatric surgery. His clinical interests include obesity medicine, bariatric care, weight loss medications, nutrition and diet optimization, vitamin deficiencies, and parenteral and enteral nutrition.
He believes that successful weight management begins with understanding each patient's unique circumstances and goals. He partners closely with patients to develop personalized treatment plans that combine medical, nutritional and lifestyle interventions designed to achieve meaningful, sustainable improvements in health and quality of life.

Dr. Lynch earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his residency in family medicine and a faculty development fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. He also earned a Master of Public Health from Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University. He is board-certified in family medicine and obesity medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Lynch has been actively involved in professional organizations and initiatives focused on obesity medicine, nutrition and healthcare improvement. His work has included leadership and service with the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, The Obesity Society, and Mayo Clinic committees dedicated to advancing obesity care and bariatric medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Lynch enjoys spending time with his family, visiting the beach and cheering on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
