Researchers work to expand the number of children and adults MR enterography might help and expand what the test can do. Current research includes: Machine learning and radiomics: Mayo Clinic researchers created and tested a radiomics-based machine-learning model. The model uses computer tools to pull many measurable details from medical images to look for patterns in those details. This research studies MR enterography images taken before surgery to help tell how much of a Crohn's disease stricture is caused by active inflammation and how much is instead caused by fibrosis, which is scarlike tissue. Abbreviated MR enterography protocols: Mayo Clinic participates in multicenter research that compares standard contrast-enhanced MR enterography with shorter versions of the test called abbreviated MR enterography protocols or A-MRE. The test uses contrast material to help certain tissues show up more clearly on the images. This research looks at whether MR enterography can still find signs of active disease and complications if some contrast material or medicines that slow bowel movement are left out.
