Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  2. chills
  3. cough
  4. dark urine
  5. dry mouth
  6. fever
  7. general feeling of tiredness and weakness
  8. hoarseness
  9. light-colored stools
  10. lower back or side pain
  11. nausea
  12. painful or difficult urination
  13. rapid weight gain
  14. tingling of the hands or feet
  15. unusual weight gain or loss
  16. vomiting
  17. yellow eyes and skin

Rare

  1. Bloody urine
  2. continuing ulcers or sores in the mouth
  3. difficulty with breathing
  4. seizures
  5. sore throat
  6. unusual bleeding or bruising
  7. unusual tiredness or weakness

Incidence not known

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. blood in the urine or stools
  5. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  6. change in consciousness
  7. chest tightness
  8. clay-colored stools
  9. cloudy urine
  10. confusion about identity, place, person, and time
  11. continuing nausea or vomiting
  12. difficulty with swallowing
  13. dizziness
  14. drowsiness
  15. fast heartbeat
  16. general body swelling
  17. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  18. headache
  19. high fever
  20. hives, itching, or skin rash
  21. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  22. increase in the frequency of seizures
  23. joint pain
  24. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  25. loss of appetite
  26. loss of consciousness
  27. mood or mental changes
  28. muscle cramps, pain, spasms, stiffness, or twitching
  29. muscle cramps in the hands, arms, feet, legs, or face
  30. no blood pressure
  31. no breathing
  32. no pulse
  33. nosebleeds
  34. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  35. pale skin
  36. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  37. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  38. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  39. red, irritated eyes
  40. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  41. seizures
  42. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  43. stomach cramps
  44. swollen glands
  45. trembling
  46. trouble breathing
  47. unpleasant breath odor
  48. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  49. vomiting of blood

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. change in taste

Less common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. congestion
  3. constipation
  4. diarrhea
  5. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  6. full feeling
  7. heartburn
  8. numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands or feet
  9. passing gas
  10. runny nose
  11. sleepiness
  12. swollen joints
  13. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  14. voice changes

Incidence not known

  1. Decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  2. inability to have or keep an erection
  3. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
