Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blood in the urine or stools
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. fever
  6. hoarseness
  7. lower back or side pain
  8. painful or difficult urination
  9. pale skin
  10. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  11. sore throat
  12. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  13. unusual bleeding or bruising
  14. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Blackening of the fingernails and toenails
  2. trouble breathing

Rare

  1. Confusion
  2. dizziness
  3. headache
  4. joint pain
  5. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  6. seizures
  7. swelling of the feet or lower legs

Incidence not known

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. bleeding gums
  3. bleeding under the skin
  4. blisters on the skin
  5. bluish or pale color on the skin of the fingers or toes
  6. chest tightness
  7. coldness of the fingers or toes
  8. crater-like lesions on the skin
  9. dark urine
  10. drowsiness
  11. fast heartbeat
  12. general body swelling
  13. hives, itching, skin rash
  14. irritation
  15. itching, pain, redness, or swelling on the leg
  16. joint stiffness or swelling
  17. loss of appetite
  18. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching seizures
  19. nausea
  20. nosebleeds
  21. numbness or tingling of the fingers or toes
  22. pain in the fingers or toes
  23. sore on the leg
  24. swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, hands, or feet
  25. trembling
  26. trouble swallowing
  27. vomiting
  28. weight loss
  29. yellowing of the eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Diarrhea
  2. dry skin

Less common

  1. Constipation
  2. redness of skin at the place of radiation
  3. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
  2. bluish-brownish bands on the nails
  3. indigestion
  4. passing of gas
  5. stomach pain, fullness, or discomfort
  6. stopping of menstrual bleeding
  7. thinning or loss of hair

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
