Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Early symptoms of too much medicine being absorbed into the body

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  3. confusion
  4. decreased or loss of reflexes
  5. diarrhea (may be severe and continuing)
  6. excitement, irritability, or nervousness
  7. hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there)
  8. muscle weakness
  9. nausea or vomiting
  10. sore throat and fever
  11. unusual bleeding or bruising

Late symptoms of too much medicine being absorbed into the body

  1. Constipation
  2. convulsions (seizures)
  3. difficult or painful urination
  4. difficulty in breathing
  5. dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when getting up from a lying or sitting position
  6. drowsiness
  7. fast heartbeat
  8. numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in hands or feet (may not occur for about 2 weeks after medicine is used)
  9. pain in upper abdomen or stomach (mild, dull, and continuing)
