Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Chills
  2. cold sweats
  3. confusion
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position
  5. overactive reflexes
  6. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  7. sudden jerky movements of the body
  8. swelling
  9. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. actions that are out of control
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. change in consciousness
  5. clay-colored stools
  6. dark urine
  7. decrease in frequency of urination
  8. decrease in urine volume
  9. difficult or troubled breathing
  10. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  11. disorganized thoughts
  12. dizziness
  13. drowsiness
  14. false or unusual sense of well-being
  15. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  16. fear or nervousness
  17. fever
  18. general feeling of discomfort, illness, or weakness
  19. headache
  20. high blood pressure
  21. increased sweating
  22. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  23. irritability
  24. itching
  25. lack of emotion or feelings
  26. loss of appetite
  27. loss of consciousness
  28. loud or fast speech
  29. low blood pressure
  30. muscle tremors
  31. muscle twitching
  32. nausea or vomiting
  33. nervousness
  34. no emotion or expression in speech
  35. painful urination
  36. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  37. rapid, deep, or shallow breathing
  38. rash
  39. restlessness
  40. seeing or hearing things that are not there
  41. seizures
  42. shakiness and unsteady walk
  43. shortness of breath
  44. slow or irregular heartbeat
  45. stomach cramps
  46. sweating
  47. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  48. talking, feeling, and acting with excitement
  49. uncontrolled eye movements
  50. unpleasant breath odor
  51. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  52. unusual paleness
  53. unusual tiredness or weakness
  54. vomiting of blood
  55. weakness
  56. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Constipation
  2. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  3. diarrhea
  4. dry mouth
  5. inability to have or keep an erection
  6. indigestion
  7. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  8. loss of appetite
  9. not able to have an orgasm
  10. passing of gas
  11. sleeplessness
  12. stomach pain, fullness, or discomfort
  13. trouble sleeping
  14. unable to sleep
  15. unusually deep sleep
  16. unusually long duration of sleep
  17. weight gain

Less common

  1. Blindness
  2. blurred vision
  3. decreased vision
  4. eye pain
  5. redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
  6. tearing
