Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Agitation
  2. anxiety
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. chest pain
  5. cough or hoarseness
  6. dark urine
  7. dizziness
  8. fever or chills
  9. headache
  10. irritability
  11. light-colored stools
  12. lower back or side pain
  13. muscle cramps or spasms
  14. painful or difficult urination
  15. sneezing
  16. sore throat
  17. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  18. stuffy or runny nose
  19. swollen glands
  20. unusual bleeding or bruising
  21. unusual tiredness or weakness
  22. yellow eyes and skin

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. body aches or pain
  3. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  4. change in consciousness
  5. cold sweats
  6. confusion
  7. decreased urine output
  8. discharge, excessive tearing
  9. discouragement
  10. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  11. drowsiness
  12. dry mouth
  13. dryness or soreness of the throat
  14. excessive muscle tone
  15. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  16. feeling sad or empty
  17. flushed, dry skin
  18. frequent urination
  19. fruit-like breath odor
  20. increased hunger, thirst, and urination
  21. increased urge to urinate during the night
  22. increased volume of pale, dilute urine
  23. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  24. lack of appetite
  25. loss of interest or pleasure
  26. lower back, side, or stomach pain
  27. mood changes
  28. muscle pain, cramps, tension, stiffness, or tightness
  29. nervousness
  30. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  31. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of eyelid
  32. sugar in the urine
  33. sweating
  34. swelling of the face, feet, lower legs, ankles, or hands
  35. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  36. tightness in the chest
  37. trouble breathing
  38. trouble concentrating
  39. trouble in swallowing
  40. trouble sleeping
  41. voice changes
  42. waking to urinate at night

Incidence not known

  1. Change in near or distance vision
  2. difficulty in focusing the eyes
  3. eye pain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  3. diarrhea
  4. increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight
  5. red irritated eyes
  6. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  7. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  8. severe sunburn

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  4. constipation
  5. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  6. heartburn
  7. hives or rash
  8. inability to have or keep an erection
  9. indigestion
  10. lack or loss of strength
  11. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  12. nausea
  13. rapid weight gain
  14. stomach discomfort or upset
  15. tingling of the hands or feet
  16. unusual weight gain or loss
